Why is the Campus Visit So Important?
Because Research Says It Is.

  • 71% of high school students say that the campus visit is the most trusted source
    of information (eduVentures)
  • The campus visit is the top influencer in a student's decision to apply and enroll
    (Art & Science Group)
  • 90% of students tell us: “I visited campus and it just felt right” (TargetX)

The Key to a Great Visit Experience

The TargetX Experience Team helps schools create customized solutions based on specific enrollment goals. To that end, we've created a unique set of services aimed at helping you stage a truly authentic experience of your campus.

And it all begins with the Campus Visit Consult.

Simply put, the Campus Visit Consult brings our team (and expertise) to your campus with the singular goal of helping you improve visitor experiences.

We've helped clients improve their daily information sessions and group visits as well as larger events like open houses, preview and scholarship days. You'll spend time with us brainstorming and discussing ideas and recommendations for improvement as we work with you to create more authentic, memorable and fun experiences of your campus.

Together we'll make your visit an experience that families will talk about long after they leave campus.

I highly recommend all universities
have TargetX evaluate their campus visit. It's an investment in the future
of your university. I can’t say enough
about what it did for our campus.

Consult Deliverables: Our Time and Expertise

Whether we are on campus for 1 day, 2 days or 5 days, we will build a private online network to deliver our recommendations and continue the conversations we started while on campus.

Each private client network includes:

  • An executive summary
  • A review of your visit from registration to evaluation and followup
  • Recommendations for improvement
  • Photos with comments

In addition, our clients tell us that there are many other “not-so-concrete” advantages
to having us come to campus, including:

  • Providing a fresh and well-informed perspective
  • Raising the importance and awareness of the campus visit, both in Admissions
and among the rest of the campus community
  • Making the campus visit a higher priority
  • Forcing the staff and campus to dedicate time to thinking about the visit
  • Giving all parties a voice
  • Exciting and energizing people to take action and keep thinking
They relate extremely well to all levels of staff, from the President and cabinet members to students, and are able to provide real-world solutions to your
campus visit programming issues.

The Experience Team: “Tall, Smart, Well-Educated People” *

* Hey, we didn’t say it — Birmingham-Southern College’s Tyler Peterson did!

Two Southern guys who ran visit programs at their
alma maters (Jeff at Lee College, Trent at Elon
University) met at a campus visit session at SACAC
in 2003. They stayed in touch and eventually wrote
a business plan for a campus visit consulting firm.
With that, an idea was born.

Trent decided to accept a position as a corporate
consultant while Jeff took the idea to Brian Niles,
who invited him to “come do it at TargetX.”

Two years later, Trent decided to return to
higher education and the timing was finally
right. He joined Jeff and the “Experience
Team” as we know it was official.

Hundreds of campus visits and thousands
of frequent-flier miles later, the two are
changing the campus visit — one
campus at a time.

More about Jeff

Jeff Kallay, Experience Evangelist

Jeff Kallay is higher education's first Experience Evangelist, and there's no one more
qualified to hold that title. He visits an average of three to four campuses a month,
stressing the importance of finding and telling stories that differentiate a school
from all others. And he has a great talent for helping people think creatively to
stage memorable events.

Prior to joining TargetX, Jeff was Director of Breakthrough Thinking at the highly
creative marketing firm Mindpower Inc. He is an extremely popular speaker at
conferences and workshops around the country, and has become a nationally-
recognized authority on the emerging “experience economy.”

Along with his work in higher education, Jeff is associated with Strategic
Horizons, the consultancy of James Gilmore and Joseph Pine, authors of
the groundbreaking text The Experience Economy — Work is Theatre
and Every Job a Stage
, published by Harvard Business School Press.
He researches, writes and lectures on the topic and also won
Pine & Gilmore's Experience Management Achievement award.

Jeff's innovative work was featured on the cover of the March
6th edition of The Chronicle of Higher Education.

He blogs about his campus visit travels and the experience
economy and is currently collaborating on a book about the
campus visit experience.

Trent Gilbert, Experience Evaluator

Trent Gilbert is a graduate of Elon University. Upon graduation, he served as an
Associate Director of Admissions at Elon. In this role, Trent was actively involved in
various aspects of the admissions process, including supervising the “A-Team” — a
group of student tour guides used specifically for special admission events. Along
with his involvement with Elon, Trent served as a member of several admissions
associations.

Trent understands the importance of the campus aesthetic and its effect on
visiting families and current students. He is passionate about involving the
entire campus in the admissions process and believes that the “job description”
of each member of campus should include recruiting students.

In addition to working for TargetX, Trent serves as a risk management
facilitator for members of university Greek communities. His program
focuses on simplifying risk management and encouraging student
buy-in in the process.

Most recently, Trent served as a management consultant with
RealFoundations, a Dallas-based real estate consulting firm with
an international client roster. Trent traveled extensively, providing
support and advice to clients on various industry topics.

When he isn't living on the road, Trent lives in Atlanta in an
historic cotton mill that has been converted to lofts.
