The Experience Team: “Tall, Smart, Well-Educated People” *

* Hey, we didn’t say it — Birmingham-Southern College’s Tyler Peterson did!

Two Southern guys who ran visit programs at their alma maters (Jeff at
Lee College, Trent at Elon University) met at a campus visit session at
SACAC in 2003. They stayed in touch and eventually wrote a business
plan for a campus visit consulting firm. With that, an idea was born.

Trent decided to accept a position as a corporate consultant while Jeff
took the idea to Brian Niles, who invited him to “come do it at TargetX.”

Two years later, Trent decided to return to higher education
and the timing was finally right. He joined Jeff and the
“Experience Team” as we know it was official.

Fast forward to 2010, Jeff and Trent are spending
more and more time on campuses across the
nation. To help implement the team's ideas and
initiatives, Emily Welsh, Experience Evaluator, has
joined the team. Emily provides another unique
perspective on connecting today's college students
to institutions. As the Experience Team sets
out to explore campuses across the country,
Celesta Brown, a Seth Godin junkie and
freelance writer and editor, helps keep them
grounded as the Experience Expediter.

Hundreds of campus visits and thousands

Jeff Kallay, Vice President, Consulting
“Apostle of Authenticity”

Jeff Kallay has a great talent for helping people think creatively.

He is an extremely popular speaker at conferences and workshops around the country,
and has become a nationally-respected authority on the emerging “experience economy”
and the all-important campus visit experience. As vice president of TargetX’s consulting
division, he tours an average of six campuses a month to help colleges and universities
find their DNA and connect with best-fit students.

His innovative campus visit work was recently featured on the cover of The Chronicle
of Higher Education.
, in the national section of the New York Times, and in
University Business Magazine.

Along with his work in higher education, Jeff is associated with Strategic
Horizons, the consultancy of James Gilmore and Joseph Pine, authors of
the groundbreaking text The Experience Economy — Work is Theatre
and Every Job a Stage
, published by Harvard Business School Press.
He researches, writes and lectures on the topic and also won Pine
& Gilmore’s Experience Management Achievement award.

He keeps a popular blog about his campus visit travels, authenticity
and the experience economy.

Born in Pittsburgh, raised in Florida, and a graduate of Lee College
in Cleveland, TN, Jeff is an avid reader, loves cheap beer and fine
wine, and is a passionate Gators and Steelers football fan.

Trent Gilbert, Chief eXperience Officer

Trent Gilbert is a graduate of Elon University. Upon graduation, he served as an
Associate Director of Admissions at Elon. In this role, Trent was actively involved in
various aspects of the admissions process, including supervising the “A-Team” — a
group of student tour guides used specifically for special admission events. Along
with his involvement in Elon admissions, Trent served as a member of several
admissions associations.

Trent understands the importance of the campus aesthetic and its effect on
visiting families and current students. He is passionate about involving the
entire campus in the admissions process; he believes that the “job description”
of each member of campus should include recruiting students.

In addition to working for TargetX, Trent serves as a risk management
facilitator for members of university Greek communities. His program
focuses on simplifying risk management and encouraging student
buy-in in the process.

Most recently, Trent served as a management consultant with
RealFoundations, a Dallas-based real estate consulting firm with
an international client roster. Trent traveled extensively, providing
support and advice to clients on various industry topics.

When he isn't living on the road, Trent lives in Atlanta in a
historic cotton mill that has been converted to lofts.
