FLIP for a better campus visit evaluationPosted by Jeff Kallay on July 12, 2009
All campus visits should be evaluated by students and parents. (And each should have different evaluations.) And the data for evaluations should be constantly used towards improvement. The problem is most schools provide detailed, 20+ questions on two-sides of 8.5″x11″ paper and the whole thing is too taxing on those filling them out and those processing them. This weekend I ate at FLIP burger boutique here in Atlanta. (By Top Chef contestant Richard Blais.) The place is contemporary homage to an American classic. But I’m not here to review restaurants. Tucked inside the bill folder was a simple evaluation form on card stock. It asked to rank five simple topics relevant to our “experience” and allowed for comments. It was easy to complete. Learn from the simplicity of this evaluation card. It uses simple language, is to the point and fast to complete. Don’t belabor your campus visit guests with surveys that include too many wordy questions, too many choices and too many descriptives. 3 Responses to “FLIP for a better campus visit evaluation”Leave a Reply |

Hi Jeff … I thought this was going to be about the FLIP camera, which I have one and LOVE…but this is about the quickie survey. What a great idea! When I visited Indianapolis last December, the restaurant I went to with a rep from the CVB, Palomino, gave - after you signed your bill - a small printed “card” with their logo on it. When you opened it up (it was like 2″x2″), there was a wonderful saying and an invite to come back. I still remember it! They also had a great environment and wonderful food.

Shelley:
It’s the little things that make a big difference. Trent and I are trying to incorporate using FLIP cameras into our evaluation. I know this year’s eduWEB conference in Chicago will be a success. Adrienne is looking forward to participating. I’ll be at the National Small College Enrollment Conference in Cincinnati at the same time.
